In September 2010 the College landscape in Scotland changed dramatically when the City of Glasgow College was formed, Scotland’s newest and largest College. This was a result of the merger of the following three former Colleges:

  • Central College Glasgow
  • Glasgow Metropolitan College
  • Glasgow College of Nautical Studies
  • Improved access routes to Further and Higher Education.
  • Stronger articulation routes with University partners across Scotland and the UK Enhanced employability skills for students.
  • A diverse learning community of some 135 different nationalities.
  • Specialist courses with all their Industrial and employer links for future generations of student.

The College now has a fantastic portfolio of over 2,600 courses across a wide variety of areas which can be studied in various modes of attendance such as full time, part time, day release and distance learning. The College is currently the home of 32,500 students and 1,200 staff.

Nautical Studies

Below is a list of all City of Glasgow College Nautical Studies subjects organised alphabetically, including Deck Officer Trainee Programmes, Advanced Tanker Courses, and more. Many are offered at HNC and HND level, and we have a wide range of courses available on a Full Time, Part Time, Evening, and Saturday basis. The School of Nautical Studies works closely with, and provides training for, a number of organisations including Clyde Marine Training which recruits approximately 50% of the annual Trainee Officer intake for the British Merchant Navy. All course information is correct at the time of publication.  However,  we are currently conducting a review of all full time course which may lead to changes.  City of Glasgow College reserves the right to amend or update this information at any time. The College is currently reviewing its course provision and the course for which you have been made an offer will run subject to viable numbers and solely at the discretion of the College. In the event of a place not being made available the College will make all reasonable endeavours to offer you an alternative place on a similar course.

 

Courses

MCA OOW Preparation Post HND

This course is designed for overseas cadets who have already completed their HND Nautical Science, or  a BSc Nautical Science.

NC/HNC Deck Officer Trainee Programme

This course is designed for school leavers who wish to become seagoing Deck Officers.  Professional Diploma in Marine Operations

This course is designed for school leavers who have gained at least 120 UCAS points and who wish to become seagoing Deck Officers. 

UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency Chief Mate & Master (Reg11/2) (including HND Nautical Science)

This course is designed for serving watch keeping Deck Officers, who do not already hold an HND Nautical Science, and want to progress to Chief Mate and eventually to Masters (STCW 95) level UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency Officer of the Watch (Reg11/1) (including HNC Nautical Science)

The course is designed for serving deck ratings who want to obtain a UK Certificate of Competency at Officer of the Watch (STCW 95) level.
